July 24, 2002 : Introducing the New Lebanon Comprehensive Plan Committee.
The committee that was formed to draft an updated Comprehensive Plan for the Town of New Lebanon has prepared proposed statements of goals and objectives to guide the development of detailed planning recommendations.
"Based on input from the Town Board, the Planning Board and, most importantly, the Town's residents, property owners and business people, the Comprehensive Plan Committee has identified the planning issues of greatest concern," announced Committee Chair Jack Yurish. "Through our public workshops and community-wide survey we identified the things people like and dislike about our Town and their hopes for its future." From these, the Committee has fashioned 11 goals for the Comprehensive Plan to achieve. For each goal the Committee identified a number of objectives that will guide the next steps in the update process: identification of specific strategies and drafting of concrete recommendations.
According to Mr. Yurish, with this important step now completed, the Committee wants feedback from the Town Board and the public on the goals and objectives. "One important purpose of the Comprehensive Plan will be to evaluate existing zoning regulations and to formulate possible amendments," said Mr. Yurish. "It is critical that the public review the draft goals and objectives and provide input on them now, because they will become the guideposts for the remainder of the Plan."
The draft statements have been added to the website (newlebanonplanning.org) and copies will be available at Town Hall, the New Lebanon Library and other public locations. A public meeting will be held on May 15 at 7:00 p.m. at the New Lebanon Firehouse, corner of Routes 20 and 22 and Shaker Road for the purposes of providing information and answering questions about the goals and objectives statements. Nan Stolzenberg, the professional planner hired by the Town to assist in the update process, will conduct the meeting.
All residents, and property and business owners are strongly encouraged to review the draft statements and attend the public meeting. Questions and comments can also be communicated by E-mail (through the website) or regular mail through Town Hall, attention: Comprehensive Plan Committee.
